About Us
Singapore Treasures is the brain child of Marijn van der Laan, a Dutch national living in Singapore. The internet site Singapore Treasures took its first steps on the net in early August 2008.
A short while later another Dutchie, Lot de Jongh, joined forces with Marijn and over many coffees at Borders Bistro the idea for a story sharing platform was born.
“We both really enjoy living in Singapore and we believe that each day in this multicultural Island-state has special encounters and intriguing experiences in store for you. Just keep your ears and eyes open!”
It is our aim to grow the website into an interactive platform were everyone can share his or her stories and post links to hidden Singapore Treasures. For us this site is a hobby, a pet-project if you will. In everyday life we are both working in the Marketing/Communication field in Singapore.
So unlike you might expect it is not our goal to make a fortune with this website. Not that we are adverse to money, but first and foremost it is our goal to collect as many stories on Singapore as possible. Then one day, if we have enough stories and a little bit of money, we would love to bundle the stories in a book and publish them in limited edition. If that ever happens and your story will feature on real paper, of course we will make sure you get a copy.
In order to pay for the development of the Singapore Treasure project and maintenance of the website we do run Google Ads in the right banner of the site. In addition, we have allocated a few spots for advertisements on the web pages itself. Do drop us an email if you are interested in advertising.
If you have other ideas that would fit under the Singapore Treasures theme, do let us know! Again the goal is to develop fresh ideas that will inspire you and other fellow Singapore inhabitants (be it Singaporeans or foreigners) to share their personal finds and hidden treasures.
